Transitional Housing for People Seeking Asylum
Our program is the largest transitional housing provider in NSW for people seeking asylum and refugees. We offer stability to help clients rebuild their lives and work towards independence and long-term wellbeing.
What is Transitional Housing?
Transitional housing offers short- to medium-term accommodation combined with personalised, wrap-around support for people experiencing housing insecurity. Through trauma-informed case management and support services, including life skills training and financial literacy, clients gain stability and prepare to transition confidently into long-term housing or the private rental market.
This holistic support fosters independence, helping clients break the cycle of homelessness and build a sustainable future beyond reliance on emergency assistance.

Welcome Start Transitional Housing Program (WSTH)
The Welcome Start Transitional Housing (WSTH) program provides up to 12 months of support for people unable to access government housing assistance.
The program offers safe, stable housing, personalised case management, mentoring on tenancy rights, and pathways to both financial and housing independence. Clients also access warm referrals to legal, health, education, and employment services, as well as job readiness training and support transitioning into long-term housing.
Women’s Supported Accommodation Project
This project supports women seeking asylum who cannot access government financial assistance, especially those leaving domestic violence who are unable to access refuges due to their visa status. We provide safe, shared accommodation.
In 2024, the project supported 17 families. Five women completed our a HW Catering Social Enterprise traineeship, gaining valuable job skills, and two participated in the Work & Welcome Program, further building their independence.

“Finding stable housing was life-changing for me. After months of uncertainty. Having a place to call home gave me peace of mind and security I desperately needed. Having stable housing has changed my life, allowing me to focus on rebuilding other parts of my life, like my mental health, work and personal goals. I no longer worry about where I will sleep at night. Home to me means safety, peace and a place that can heal and grow and dream again.”
